ECE sokesperson Cindy Rolain reported East Central Electric’s service area was hit hard and crews were put in Chisago, Isanti, Pine, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Aitkin and Benton counties all night. By Monday morning only a few dozen ECE customers remained without power. Xcel Energy likewise had a busy Sunday night, and even Monday night-- when high wind accompanied round-2 rains that arrived 7 to 8 p.m. in the county.
River fatality
The body of a 14-year-old St. Paul girl was recovered by dive teams working off the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix River, July 12, after she’d been reported to have been swept under about two hours earlier. The incident, as reported by Polk County WI sheriff’s department, was called in about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The Polk County Sheriff stated in a news release the girl was not wearing a floatation device and was canoeing with a group of unskilled swimmers.
July 11 a participant in the Karl Oskar Days parade was injured when he jumped off a moving side-by-side UTV. Shafer-Franconia Fire Dept. had a unit in the parade and was the nearest one able to respond. The incident happened abut 7:30 p.m. towards the end of the parade route. The boy was taken to Fairview Lakes Medical Center.
Lakes Area Police collected a stray “lap dog” sized white dog with green collar July 11. The dog was found in Lindstrom.
July 9 Lakes Area officers were dispatched to give assistance at the scene of a reported heroin overdose, in Chisago City. Call came in about 9:20 p.m.
July 6 there were horses loose on Mulberry St. in Taylors Falls and sheriff personnel was dispatched about 5:20 p.m. The owner was contacted and the animals were supposed to be corraled on Vista Road, a short distance away.
