Local students impress with writing skills for Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy
VFW Post 1678 sponsored The Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy contests in the Chisago Lakes Schools. The Patriot’s Pen essay theme was “What Freedom Means to Me.” The first place winner for Patriot’s Pen is Niya Duren, center; second place Katie E. Peterson, and third place is Garrett Doolittle. Congratulations to the winners and a huge thank you to all the participants. The entries were well written and it was a difficult decision. Voice of Democracy
Chisago Lakes High School Prinicpal David Ertl stands with student winners of the Voice of Democracy contest, sponsored by VFW Post 1678 represented by post officials Leroy Mitchell and Ralph Carlson. First place honors went to Sarah Burch, in center. Second place to Gabrielle Farrell, right. Third Place was awarded to Rachel Dahl, left. Burch’s taperecorded entry advances to the district competition, where first place finishers go on to State. The state’s first place entry gets a paid trip to Washington where the student competes at nationals for a scholarship. The theme for this year’s Voice of Democracy contest was “My Vision for America.”
