He was born in the town of Cameron, Wisconsin on June 21, 1933. He was the third child of Edgar and Violet (Olson) Perry. Robert was raised in rural Wisconsin where he cultivated a love of nature, farming, and tractors – a hobby that kept him busy until a few short weeks ago. He married the love of his life, Phyllis France November 23, 1952, passing three days short of their 63rd anniversary. He proudly served in the United States Army, and stayed active with American Legion Post 272 of Chisago City, Minnesota. He drove truck for Century Motor Freight for 42 years, advocating for the teamsters union to all who would listen. He spoke daily of his love of driving, and wished he hadn’t retired early.
In 1963, he and his wife settled in Chisago City where they raised their family. Robert gladly volunteered his time, effort, and love to the United Methodist Church in Lindstrom as well as Fairview Lakes as a valet parking attendant for over nine years, which he thoroughly enjoyed. In 2014, he and his wife were awarded Outstanding Senior Citizens of the year and enjoyed fame while riding a convertible in the Ki Chi Saga Days parade. He often found time to spend in Chetek, Wisconsin where he had purchased a lake home, also helping family maintain the house and land his parents and grandparents had owned.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years; sons Leslie (Mary), Keith, Lee, and Wayne; brother Clifton (Karen); sisters Elaine Craven, Kathy (Les) Guibord, and sister-in-law Juanita (Eldon) Perry; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, friends and their families.
Funeral Services were Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Lindstrom with a private interment at a later date in Chetek, Wisconsin. Arrangements by the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom. Condolences may be expressed online at www. grandstrandfh.com.
