Chisago Lakes was only able to secure one Mississippi 8 Conference win this year, and it came against the Princeton Tigers.
The Wildcats got nine wins on the night and it started in the 200 medley relay team of Kalli Jo Olson, Hannah Stec, Kathryn Crum and Danielle Smythe.
Hannah Janzig kept things rolling with a 2:41 in the 200 individual medley to win that event and start a strong stretch that sealed the win early for CL.
After Janzig, Smythe came in first in the 50 free and 500 free, Payton Nelson won the diving event, Stec dominated the 100 fly and teamed with Lauren Johnson, Janzig and Crum to win the 200 free relay. Olson capped it off with a win in her most dominating event, the 100 backstroke, where she finished in 1:05.43, 12 seconds faster than the rest of the field.
By that time, it was 102-54 in favor of the Wildcats and they were able to take their foot off the gas pedal and move into exhibition mode. They still earned some of the fastest times in the last two events, but all the points for it went to Princeton to make the final 102-79.
Buffalo 109, Chisago Lakes 72
Things went south quickly for the Wildcats when they hosted Buffalo Thursday, October 8.
The Bison went one-two-three in two of the first three events and it spelled disaster early for CL. Buffalo held a 36-10 lead after three events, and it was going to be a long battle to attempt to come back.
On the night, Chisago Lakes got one win, Olson in the 500 freestyle. She finished in 6:00.52, just two seconds ahead of Buffalo’s top distance swimmer.
Stec and Janzig went one-two in the 100 breaststroke, but by then, it was too little, too late.
