There was an extrication demonstration at Almelund Fire Hall Open House, Saturday, Oct 10. Firefighters used the “jaws of life” tool and a sawzall-style cutter to peel-back the roof, detach doors and remove the windshield from this scrap car; showing how responders can render aid to trapped victims. Meantime; on-lookers are easily visible through where the windshield used to be. Almelund F.D. served hot dogs and goodie bags for the kids were distributed inside the firehall, as well as truck rides and hands-on use of the fire hose. Many area fire departments hosted open houses for promoting Fire Safety Week, a designated week to replace smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector batteries and review your home’s fire action plan...
