Authorities said the suspect turned off the freeway and headed west to Fish Lake at Harris. The pursuit went northward and east, back through Rush City again and then north into Pine County where the vehicle went east on Hwy. 70. Stopsticks were deployed with Pine County sheriff deputy aid, and the vehicle was sent into a ditch with no injury resulting from the pursuit intervention technique (PIT) manuver, but a sheriff’s squad car did sustain some damage.
The driver, Jonathan Henry Rojas, is a 37-year-old from Sandstone. Authorities said he has an extensive history of DUI violations and is charged with fleeing and driving with a revoked license.
At Forest Blvd. and Crestview Drive, rural Harris, a tote container was recovered by a patrol deputy and it contained vintage Barbie dolls. Turned over to North Branch Police.
Saturday, April 2 Lakes Area Police went to assist where a natural gas line had been hit by a homeowner trenching on his property, on Itasca Court. Call came in about 9:30 a.m. Xcel Energy handled the situation. Always call the locate company at 8-1-1 for underground utility routes to get marked, before you dig. The service is free.
A single car crash on Chestnut Street in Taylors Falls about 11 a.m. was possibly the result of a medical episode. The male driver was reportedly confused and removed from car by TF fire and EMS, who took him to Regions Hospital.
The Taylors Falls Elementary School and Chisago Lakes Middle School both summoned an officer to deal with students bringing electronic cigarettes to school.
March 29 Lakes Area Police with mutual aid from a sheriff’s deputy, made an arrest of a 36-year-old man, who reportedly had fled a collision scene and abandoned his vehicle near Zion Church. There were reports of a total of three vehicles being struck on Old Towne Road by a vehicle matching the suspect’s car.
North Branch Police and deputies helped in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle coming north on I-35 March 29, about 5 a.m. The traffic on I-35 was halted briefly while the driver exited the vehicle a little north of North Branch and Centennial Police made an arrest.
Resident in Almelund reported her dog kennel was vandalized, causing one dog to run free and be killed on Hwy. 95. Deputy took complaint of alleged squatters at a neighboring house to this complainant and debris and garbage piling up.
March 28 a forced entry break-in at the Swedish Village Mall in Center City. No details about stolen items. There were obvious signs of doors broken into on the rear of the building.
