“The Quilt Stars on Broadway”, the biennial Quilt Show presented by the Forest Lake Memorial Quilters guild will be held at the American Legion Event Center, 355 Broadway Ave. West, in Forest Lake. Show hours are Friday, April 22, 9-6 PM and Saturday, April 23, 9-4 PM.  Admission is $4.

The raffle quilt (in photo) will be on display and $1 chances will be sold.  The event will feature raffles, demonstrations, 8 vendors and an awesome display of over 150 quilts in all sizes and colors.

The 50 member quilt guild also has a large “Sew Many Things…” boutique area featuring many hand-made items for sale.   There will be free demonstrations throughout both days of the show with different aspects and tips for quilting and sewing.  Again this year is a bed-turning display of unique and antique quilts, along with their stories. The bed-turning will be held at 10:30 and 2:00 on both days.

The Vendors at the show: Fabrics, Fashions and More, Sweet Cotton Shoppe, One Wing Wool, Quilt Sticks, Sticherydoo, Shades of the Past Quilt Shop, Quarry Quilts and Yarns and Just Hanging Quilts will be there offering materials, kits and the latest sewing gadgets, quilt racks, books and more.
The American Legion Auxiliary will sell coffee and cookies and lunch specials are available both days.

Forest Lake Memorial Quilt Club is service- oriented. The club makes 50 burp cloths a month for Fairview hospital to give to the new moms. Members also make Angel Baby blankets, hats and gowns for infants who are angels at birth.  They give quilts to Bridging, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Regions Children’s Trauma Center, The Refuge and Windows Crisis Centers for women in domestic abuse situations.  The club provides quilts for silent auctions to benefit Fairview Hospital Auxiliary, Cancer Relay for Life, Life Care Center and others.  They’ve made  “Little Dresses for Africa” out of pillow cases. You can see samples of their many service projects at the show.

They also support Quilts of Valor, which gives quilts to our wounded soldiers.  Club members have made over 220 Quilts of Valor, and donated several quilts to the American Legion for fundraising projects the last few years.  You will see a few Quilts of Valor on display and more information will be available on the National QOV program.

Forest Lake Memorial Quilters began in 1979.  The 50 member club consists of quilters with a wide variety of quilting talents.  They meet on the third Thursday, 7-9 PM, each month at the Senior Center in Forest Lake located at 767 4th Ave. S.W.  New members and guests are always welcome.
