The county initially was advised by Springsted & Associates to expect to pay a steeper interest for the General Obligation bonds than what was awarded. County Administrator Bruce Messelt told the commissioners last week this 1.8 percent rate reduces anticipated interest expense over the life of the 15 year pay-off by some $300,000.
In another financial matter, the commissioners accepted the three year 2016-2018 contract (retroactive for 2016) with corrections and 9-1-1 staff. There was no discussion.
The contract highlights are: wages increase this year two percent, three percent for 2017 and two percent again in 2018. The wage scale for an entering “step one” corrections/telecommunications officer starts at $19.40 an hour.
Insurance premium cost increases are covered by the county this year and split 50-50 following years.
The bailiffs are now included in a class of workers who get overtime after 40 hours a week.
Employees may now “cash in” up to 60 hours of unused vacation. This had been 25 hours.
Clothing allowance is increased: telecommunications workers get $350 and corrections officers get $550 this year and increases thereafter.
Appointments were made unanimously-- appointed to serve as county recorder was Janet Converse and appointed to the Board of Adjustment, Donna Nowicki.
There is a vacant at-large seat on the county planning commission. Gene Olson stepped down. Applications should be submitted within a month. Go to the website at mn-chisagocounty.civicplus.com or call county administration 651-213-8830 for a form. This is an at-large seat so you do not need to reside in any particular district.
The Taylors Falls deputy patrol services contract was adopted for 40 hours a week (new) and at a rate of $53.87 per hour. Chisago County sheriff’s deputies are hired by cities without local departments...such as Stacy, Harris, Rush City, Center City and Shafer.
The Rush Lake Improvement Association donated $1,000 to the countywide children’s water festival. This is an environmental learning experience for all fifth graders in the three county school districts, and this year it is moving from Ojiketa Regional Park to Wild Mountain Recreation Area.
