I posted photos on the County Press Facebook page if you would like to view them.
The caravan signals the beginning of the Threshing Show. Beginning Friday, one of the oldest, neatest celebrations kicks off in Almelund. Friday the gates open at 10 am with a kids tractor safety clinic. During each and every day you are invited to take in some or all of the many attractions such as steam threshing, a steam sawmill, a massive (and I mean massive) tractor display of over 700 tractors. A giant flea market, a petting zoo, glass blowing, a working blacksmith shop, a car and truck show, a mercantile show and of course some of the best food you have ever had. I recommend getting a homemade malt - they are incredible. 5 p.m. on Friday is a tractor pull. This is one of the best attended events of the show, because it is open class and you will see the really big and loud tractors pulling. The Rockin’ Hollywoods take the stage at the beer garden for the annual dance. The dance begins at 8 and runs until midnight.
Saturday begins with a kids pedal tractor pull for kids 5-10 years of age. We have a family friend who won this a few years back and she competed at the Corn Palace in South Dakota. Who knows, maybe your child could win?
There is an antique tractor pull at 2 pm and the band Dirt Road Dixie will take the stage at 8 in the beer garden.
Sunday there is a church service, a tractor pull, and the day finishes with a tractor and quilt raffle.
Please remember a few things about the Threshing Show. First, make sure to bring a camera. These tractors are spectacular and make for some wonderful photos. Secondly, every day at 1 pm, there is a tractor parade that travels throughout the grounds, find a nice comfortable spot and enjoy the parade. Lastly, bring your friends. This is such a relaxed and fun event, it is perfect for friends and family.
The Chisago Lakes Sportsmen’s picnic is this Saturday. The picnic is open to everyone and is a chance to meet friends and family in a wonderful atmosphere. There are kid and adult games, shooting contests, bingo, great food and of course good times. The picnic is held at the Sportsmens Club across from the library at 11 am and runs until 5:30 pm. The cost is free - come on out and have some fun.
Each week I will remind you of the Blue Zone Rally that is being held at the PAC on September 14, at 6 pm. I really hope we can have a great turnout. It has the chance to help shape our community’s future. Your Blue Zone Tip of the week is: Take time to relieve stress and socialize with friends. Life is short, don’t run so fast that you miss it.
A Brush With Kindness is still looking for volunteers.
Our mission week begins this week and runs through next week. If you would like to volunteer to help, we would love to have you. A Brush With Kindness is simply put, one of the greatest group of generous people I have ever met in my life. They take time out of their busy lives to help those who are less fortunate and are in need of home repair. It is the most satisfying work you will ever do. We need you. If you would like to volunteer please give us a call at 651-329-3644, I thank you in advance!
