This school year also marks my 40th year in education. The last thirty seven years were spent in the former Taylors Falls School District and after the consolidation in 1992 the current Chisago Lakes School District. Even though there have been many changes in education over that long period, there have been a few constants, in my opinion.
• Do what is best for students and families.
• Communication is the key.
• Always be fair and consistent.
I see daily examples of how our employees use the ‘above’ to help students reach their academic and social potential.
Last year one of the School Board’s goals was to perform a facility audit for our school district. After meeting with all of our building site teams and hosting several public meetings, the School Board used this input to begin to develop a plan to meet our space needs. More information will be found in the School Review, our district newsletter. As plans progress, we will also supply this information on the district website, www.chisagolakes.k12.mn.us and in the Chisago County Press.
Once a plan is formulated, we will schedule public meetings. The goal is to provide a framework for the public by late fall, and then plan for a vote in late spring of 2017. This will allow for informational meetings during early spring; we want to ensure everyone knows what the plan entails and what the costs are.
Instead of having Superintendent evening office hours, I will be having “Coffee and Conversation” meetings at local restaurants. These meetings will be scheduled on Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. The dates are as follows:
Sept. 17th – Chisago House – Taylors Falls.
Nov. 12th – Eichten’s Bistro – Center City.
Jan. 14th – Swedish Inn – Lindstrom.
Mar. 25th – Wagon Wheel – Chisago City.
Please stop in if you have a question or concern. And I will do my best to provide you with answers.
Thank you for your continued support of Chisago Lakes Schools. I look forward to serving you in the new school year. Again, please contact me if you have questions. Sincerely, Joe Thimm, Superintendent, Chisago Lakes Schools
Please remember to support our local businesses.
