Garrett Lee Rasmussen, age 69 of Chisago City, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, August 14, 2016, surrounded by family.  Garrett was born on January 15, 1947 to Wallace and Irene Rasmussen in Minneapolis.  He grew up in Mound, Minnesota and graduated from Mound Senior High in 1965.  He played Little League and Babe Ruth baseball.  As a boy he enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He played the trombone in the high school band, and once took a week long train trip, with the band, to play concerts in Washington DC.  They also played the opening day concert at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York.

Garrett served in the US Army from 1966-1969, stationed in Hawaii at Camp HM Smith, and was in Reserves until 1972.  He was discharged at a rank of E-5.  In the military his specialty was lithography and after his service, used those skills while he worked for a printing company called Instant Webb in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

In 1984, Garrett bought Rocky Point Resort on Lake Kabetogama where he was owner/operator until 1992.  He was also a fishing guide with a Captain’s License, and member of the Kabetogama Lake Association, VCTC, and Kabetogama Snodrifters Snowmobile Club.  During this time he met the love of his life, Carol and after their time at Rocky Point, moved to Chisago Lakes.  They were married on July 1, 1992. He then started his own business, Garrett’s Graphic Repair where he was a printing consultant, broker and repair expert for printing presses.  After he retired, he and Carol started their own DJ and Karaoke business, called the Garrett and Carol Karaoke Show.  They made so many wonderful friends through their performances!  He was a member of the American Legion Post 272.  He loved fishing, playing pool, 4-wheeling, cutting and splitting wood, excavating, sitting around the campfire, singing, making people smile.  He also loved his cats and dogs!

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Irene Rasmussen and nephew Tyler Curtis.  He is survived by his wife Carol; son Joel; daughters Charlene (Noah), and Cali; brother Mark (Connie) Rasmussen; nephews Ryan (Renee), and Kyle; sister Allison Curtis; and nieces Amy (Kam) Alipour and Anna (Scott) Halderson.

Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2016 at Lord of the Lakes Lutheran Church on Highway 8 between Chisago City and Forest Lake and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Lord of the Lakes Lutheran Church.  A Celebration of Life will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Hugo American Legion.  A private family interment will take place at a later date, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
