Bad news for this year's Celebration of the Lakes; Iowa trips are never dull
We have had warm weather in the past, but those years we were able to move the events to Ki Chi Saga County Park. That year the event had hot air balloons that were able to go aloft from the park. Radar runs need ice to work and that is just not going to happen.
It was an unbelievably hard decision for the Celebration of the Lakes Committee to make, but ultimately Mother Nature forced our hand.
There will still be some events taking place off-ice such as a polka dance, a spaghetti feed, and pancake breakfast. Look in the Press in the next few weeks for more on those events.
Please bear with us folks, there is nothing we look forward to more than the Celebration of the Lakes and watching the public have so much fun outside. The Chamber is working feverishly to find a new source of community fun this winter. Stay tuned.
My entire family packed up and headed to Iowa over the long weekend. Since my grandmothers are a tad bit older, it has become easier for us to go to them.
The trip was great, traffic was light, everyone was excited to see their grandmothers again. We don’t get down there nearly as much as we should, so when we do it is special to us.
After a long day of eating and visiting, opening presents (white elephant variety) my grandmother decided she was going to give away her Christmas decorations. As she was filling her dining room table with decorations, she proceeded to trip and fall. All we heard was a large thud. We all looked at each other with the same look, “No please don’t be Gram”. It was. She’d fallen and was laying face down in the dining room.
Then came three hours in an emergency room Saturday night with my brother and Gram. I give her credit, never once did she complain other than getiing mad at herself for “ruining Christmas” which she didn’t. She will get to wear a beautiful arm splint for the next six weeks. Pretty amazing woman. No pain pills, just a Tylenol every once in a while.
Now that ice fishing season has opened, make sure to email us your trophy fish caught on local lakes. Send pics to [email protected]. See page 2 for some neat pics.
