Celebration of the Lakes has been cancelled, well sort of, maybe not

Remember last week when I wrote that Celebration of the Lakes was in essence cancelled this year.  Well I have some good news, some of the events have been resuscitated.  I am happy to say there will now be a 5K race and from all accounts it sounds like the Lions Ice Fishing Contest will also take place. We will have a nice spread in the County Press and the Search Shopper detailing all of the events taking place that weekend.  Included will be Scandia’s Vinterfest which will take place the same weekend. Between the two areas, there will be plenty of things for you to enjoy.

Frankie’s Live Bait & Marine is once again playing host to the annual NAIFC Ice Fishing Tournament. The tournament will feature professional ice fishermen and women from around the country. It is not limited to just pros. The public is invited and encouraged to take part.  The payouts are very large and they are allowing 100 teams to enter. Last year there were quite a few local teams and a few of them did as well as the pros.  We will have more on the tournament in the next week or two.

Next Tuesday, the Chisago Lakes Chamber of Commerce would like to invite any and all business owners for a special open house. Before you reach for your calendar to see if you do have something else planned instead of attending some stuffy, pushy gathering, I would add “relax”. It is not like that. The Chamber is merely reaching out in a very informal environment (Gustaf Galleries) to meet each and every business. Obviously if your business would like to join us at the Chamber, that would be great. If we are not a  fit for you, that is just fine too. But, as a long standing member of the Chisago Lakes  Chamber of Commerce, I can tell you it is a wonderful organization.  Come out to Gustaf’s on Tuesday and meet us. There will be light appetizers and refreshments.  The open house runs from 5 to 8 p.m. I hope to see you there.

Our daughter was complaining of a sore throat this week. She had no other symptoms such as fever or aches or anything like that. Upon her gymnastics coach’s urging, we took her in to St. Croix Regional Medical Center in Lindstrom. It was there that we found out she had strep throat.  Normally in our family strep is associated with a high fever, aches and tiredness.  This was none of those. The folks at SCRMC told us there were many strep strains out there that were not showing the normal tell-tale signs of strep.  Why am I telling you all of this? If your child has been complaining of a sore throat and nothing else, there is a decent chance it could be strep. It is definitely worth looking into.

Speaking of SCRMC, I just wanted to say thanks to all of the wonderful people in the Lindstrom Clinic.  We called very late in the day, they saw us immediately, ordered lab work (this I really like because if you end up not having strep, you don’t have to see a doctor), and after we found out she had strep, we immediately saw a very friendly nurse and doctor.  It was an effortless and enjoyable experience.  Thank you SCRMC.

Thank you all for your well-wishes and prayers for my Grandmother.  I am happy to say that she is in recovery and doing great.  She will wear a sling for five more weeks, but doesn’t seem to mind it too much.  She is a little upset that she can’t get to Wendy’s to hang out with the gang for a few weeks.

We would like to welcome some great new advertisers here at the Press.  Clear Creek Dental, Edward Jones Jim Green and Edward Jones Tom Hallberg and Sean Drury from Counselor Realty have joined our successful advertisers. Welcome aboard!
