This weekend is what would have been the official Celebration of the Lakes. Lucky for you there are tons of things to take part in over the weekend.

If you are an ice fishing enthusiast, there are some great opportunities.  Frankie’s Live Bait is holding the annual tournament that is filled with professionals and local residents trying to catch the big ones.  The tournament begins on Sunday, but there is a free seminar held by the pros Friday night at Frankie’s.  Saturday, bring the kids because at noon in Center City at the Fire Hall, there will be a free Kids Ice Fishing Camp.  Kids will learn the basics about fishing and safety before heading out to the lake to utilize what they have learned.

Sunday is the big tournament.  If you would like to participate in the tournament, please register online at naifc.com.

Back to Saturday, there is a 5K run/walk that will take place in Center City.  The race will begin at 9 a.m. and the kids’ fun run will kick off at 9:45 a.m.  There will be awards as well as a huge pie raffle following the races.  See the ad on page 11 to register.

Saturday night, the city of Lindstrom would like to invite you to the super-popular polka dance.  The dance begins at 6 p.m. and is held at the Lindstrom Community Center.  The Chmielewski Fun Time Band will be the featured musical act.  They are great, I have seen them before, they really know how to entertain.  Brats, sauerkraut, shredded pork sandwiches, pretzels and German beer will be available from Deutschland Meats.

Sunday morning you are invited to a pancake breakfast at Trinity Lutheran Church.  The breakfast runs from 8 until noon.

At 2 p.m. at Trinity, there will be a Bingo session that will run until 5 p.m.  All are invited to come and have some fun.

Scandia would like to invite your family to come down and enjoy VinterFest. VinterFest is Scandia’s answer to this long cold winter we all have to endure.  Headlined by a huge hockey tournament held in the park, VinterFest has plenty for your family to do as well.  On Saturday, at the park, by the Scandia community center, you’ll find reindeer, a pancake breakfast, an awesome snow sculpture contest, sledding, and cloggers.   There is a youth ice fishing contest on Goose Lake that begins at 1 p.m.  Also on Saturday, be sure to bring your cameras, because there is a great vintage snowmobile show held by the Big Marine Vets’ Camp, off Manning Avenue.

Please see pages 10 and 11 for all times and details of both town winter events.  I hope to see you out there.

We are very pleased to welcome more new advertisers to our family.  Cheryl and Randy Kempenich who own the new Lindstrom Business Center, Gopher State Storage and Lindstrom Tobacco. We are gaining new advertisers every week and are very appreciative of all of our loyal advertisers.  We are building something special here, if you are a business that has been thinking of advertising, now is the time. Give us a call and we will help you increase business and boost your brand.

Speaking of getting your message out, there is a great opportunity coming in the very near future.  The 2016 Home and Business Expo is just a month away.  It is a great place to showcase your business to thousands of people in a short period of time.  Please call or email us to make sure your business is included in the Home Show tab we will be putting out.  If you are not going to be in the show, you still can be in the tab and get your message out to the public.  Call us at 651-257-5115 or email us at [email protected]
