Karl Oskar Days was great; time to get out and vote; here comes the fair
I would like to personally thank all of the men and women who sit on the Karl Oskar Committee for their tireless work and dedication to keeping a great small town celebration not only going but going strong. You have created a real gem, and we as a community say thank you.
Speaking of Karl Oskar Days, we had someone find the snuff box very early this year. It was Alex Dahl who was up here at the Press writing every clue down the second they were posted, that found it late afternoon on day 2. The box was hidden between two metal signs at the South Center Boat Landing. Alex pointed out the clues that eventually brought his search group to the landing and the sign post he checked first had the snuff box attached. I never like to see the snuff box found so early, but at the same time, I would rather it be found early than not found at all. We have had a few years where it was not found at all, that is disappointing.
If you remember a while back, I wrote about a really neat event where nation wide a huge group of contractors have kindly donated their time and materials in the hopes that someone locally will be the recipient of a new roof. The winners of a new roof are very deserving and the winners are beyond grateful. In Minnesota, we are lucky enough to have the one Minnesota contractor participating in the giveaway right here in Chisago City. Gregory Contracting has so graciously donated a new roof to this great cause. They have narrowed it down to four very deserving families who all are in dire need of a new roof.
The locations of the potential roofs are North Branch, Chisago City, Shafer and Lindstrom. If you go to www.noroofleftbehind.org and enter 55013 zip code you will be able to vote on which roof you think is the most deserving. You will be blown away at the condition of the finalist roofs. Gregory Contracting is looking for your votes. Please log on and help them decide who the lucky winner will be. Come on, it will ony take a few minutes and you will change someone's life.
Please mark your calendars for next week, when the Chisago County Fair kicks off. The fair runs from July 19 - 24 and is held in Rush City. The fair is six days of fun that is farm and animal heavy but never loses its focus on fun. There are tons of animal exhibits and judging (this is a stepping stone to the State Fair).
The carnival begins Thursday with rides and a fan favorite the motorcross. Soupbones will headline the stage Thursday night.
Friday has the super-popular tractor pull and Steel River will headline the stage.
Saturday has a great horse show, a talent show, a goat show, and one of the most popular events of the entire fair a demolition derby.
Hitfaced will play after the derby.
If you look in this edition of the County Press you will see 4H animal auction details as well.
