July 5 juveniles were arrested when a Lakes Area Police officer observed motor vehicle tampering in Chisago City at 2:45 a.m. Parents were called to collect the youth who were cited.
Fatality on Hwy 95
A stretch of Highway 95 was the site for the second fatality crash in as many weeks.
State patrol reports the death of 31-year-old Jameson Fjelstad, of St. Paul, July 7. There was a double fatality crash on Hwy 95 over the Fourth of July weekend, involving a motorcycle.
Preliminary details are that Fjelstad was driving a 1997 Buick Century westbound on Hwy. 95, west of North Branch, about 2:30 a.m. July 7.
The Buick crossed the centerline, striking a 2006 GMC Yukon driven by 36-year-old Rosario Garcia of Mora and carrying a 12-year-old passenger. The driver required medical attention, but the youth reportedly did not sustain life threatening injuries.
State patrol accident reconstruction teams are investigating. Isanti Sheriff’s deputies and Cambridge Police were called to the scene, close to where Zodiac Street intersects with Hwy 95. Also July 7 Lakes Area Police recovered a stolen vehicle in Chisago City and held the driver on a warrant and possible theft.
A fire at a house on King’s Bluff in Chisago City reported about 5:45 p.m. Owners were not home, fire was contained.
Arrests made in North Branch Nike Factory Store thefts
Several people were being held in jail Monday this week, following an alleged mass larceny in North Branch.
The call came in to 9-1-1 about 4 p.m. Sunday, July 10 from a Nike Factory Store employee reporting numerous items had been lifted from the North Branch Nike Store and suspects had fled in a couple of vehicles. They were reported to be heading south on the freeway. Probably 10 suspects could be involved, according to Chief Dan Meyer, North Branch Police.
Authorities caught up with one car carrying goods and suspects at Wahlgreens in Forest Lake and apprehended six; two from Minneapolis, one with a Moorhead address, one from North Dakota, and two with addresses in Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park. Chief Meyer thanked the Wyoming Police officer who noticed one of the broadcast license plate numbers on a car on I-35, and followed it to where it exited in Forest Lake.
In other incidents last week, a truck was stopped in the Fernwood Circle neighborhood in North Branch matching the description of a vehice involved in numerous hit and run mailbox property damage reports July 9. Arrests were made.
North Branch Police also took calls reporting three burglaries: Cedar Street, Golden Oaks Circle and at Branch Landscaping July 7, 8 and 10.
Lakes Area officers went to a call of a domestic incident about 5 a.m. July 9. A suspect reportedly assaulted the responding officer and fled after locking himself in a room and going out the window. Being sought is Dan Manthey. Photo and details are on Lakes Area Police Facebook page.
