Triathlon needs you; fair is going on

Triathlon needs you; fair is going on
Triathlon needs you; fair is going on

This weekend is the ChisagoâLakes Triathlon. The race has been growing stronger in attendance each year.  With the increase in participants, also comes the need for more volunteers.  We are in dire need of volunteers to assist with water stations during the race.  If you and your family or friends would like to give a few hours of your time in Sunday, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Please give the Chisago Lakes Chamber of Commerce a call at 651-257-1177 and they will help you find a water station to run or help run.  Thanks so much.

If you are not wanting to volunteer during the race, I would encourage you to come out and cheer on the runners, bikers, and swimmers.  Iâhave been working the triathlon since it began in Chisago Lakes and I can tell you that speaking with hundreds of runners over the years, this community is one of the very best in the country.  They gush about the generosity and support of this community.  Let’s try to keep the tradition going.

Last week my family had the chance to get away for a few days and head up to Lake Vermillion.  We had been to Vermillion only once before and it was not such a great trip.  So we were a bit trepid this time around.  Once we pulled in to the resort, all of our fears were put to rest. It was beautiful and the lake was more picturesque than I remember.  We didn’t do a whole lot, just fished and played a lot of games with the family.  It was wonderful, just disconnecting with the world and reconnecting with our family.  We did have the usual Silver bumps in the road, such as nearly dying out on the lake while getting caught in a storm. Iâwould rather focus on the time spent with my family.

Speaking of water, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Andrew Remley. Andrew fell while hiking at Interstate Park over the weekend.  The river is at historically high levels right now, so the search for Andrew is much harder than normal. Please exercise extreme caution if you are near the river.

Remember this week is the ChisagoâCounty Fair in Rush City.  The fair is awesome, close and so much cheaper than that other fair down in St. Paul.  The big draws are  the motocross (July 21), tractor pull (July 22), and demolition derby (July 23).  As if those weren’t enough, there are hundreds of animal shows taking place all day long at the fair.  You can either take the freeway up to Rush City or a nice drive up Highway 61.  Try to get up there if possible, you will be glad you did.

OnâSeptember 14, at the PAC in the Chisago Lakes HighâSchool, there is going to be a Blue Zones Community Rally.  Come listen to Tony Buettner from Minnesota's Own Blue Zone organization. A Blue Zone is a concept used to identify a demographic and/or geographic area of the world where people live measurably longer lives.
There are 9 Basic Principles of Blue Zone Living. These are:
Move Naturally
Plant Slant
Know Your Purpose
Wine At 5
Down Shift
Family First
80% Rule
Belonging/Faith
Right Tribe

This is an America's Best Communities event. The Quality of Life Team invites you and our entire community to come learn more and help us enhance the Chisago Lake quality of life. Child care will be provided..
