Gladys married Chet Kaltenhauser in 1938 and they had two sons – Jerry and Ken. They moved to Lindstrom in 1942 where she took employment as secretary for Lynn Carrol (Lynn was one of the founders of Hazelden Foundation). Gladys was one of the first employees for Hazelden. She was also secretary for Ben Wennerberg, an attorney in Center City. She and Chet owned and operated Koehn Chevrolet in Lindstrom for 40 years, joined later by her son Ken.
Her husband Chet died in 1996 and Gladys went on to live at home and later at Water’s Edge Condos where she stayed until 2013. She was supported by her family and her caregiver and friend, Karen Posey. Advanced age required special care she received at Ecumen Parmly LifePointes, and in her last years received care at Senior Care on Que, where Gladys died on January 31, 2016.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Hannah Okerstrom; husband Chet; sisters Lenore, Laverne, Norma and her brother Wilfred. She is survived by her sons Jerry (Beth) of Ft. Collins, CO., Kenneth (Judy) of Lindstrom; grandchildren Andrea Rossini of Dresser, WI., Adam Kaltenhauser of Chicago, great-grandson Cole Rossini, sister-in-law Delphine Monroe, cousins Neil Falk and Irwin Falk of Blomford, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service with interment will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, in North Branch, MN. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom.
