February 23 about 10 a.m. a Wyoming officer alerted sheriff’s patrol cars that a suspected drug offender(s) were heading north in a vehicle, on I-35 out of Wyoming. Sheriff’s deputies were able to stop the vehicle based on excessive window tint,  as it neared the Rush City exit. The driver and all three occupants were arrested after a search of vehicle allegedly uncovered 25 pounds of marijuana and a crystalline substance.  Vehicle and $1,500 cash were seized.  Suspects gave jailers addresses in Duluth and Tower, MN for booking.

Lakes Area Police went to a call of a burning debris pile on Green Lake. Complaint was forwarded to DNR as it was on the lake and may have involved a fish house.

Two stray dogs generated complaints for Lakes Area Police. One dog was brought to Northwoods Humane Society, (a brown and white female pointer) and the other was held in the police kennel, (a black colored male Rottweiler) Both were found in Chisago City.

A few rural callers complained about tactics of vacuum salesmen going door-to- door in the north end of the county. Sheriff’s personnel checked into their identities and learned the sales force was operating apparently legally in the Cambridge and Rush City regions.  

February 27 a female was transported from Lindstrom for medical care after reportedly overdosing on prescription medicine.

If you noticed large amounts of smoke between about 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. from North Center Lake between Center City and Lindstrom, area fire departments did a house burn in Anderson Peninsula as a training exercise. (See photos elsewhere in paper.)

February 28 the first motorcycle crash of the year, reported at Jay and West 8th in Rush City. The injured driver of a Kawasaki attempted to flee when sheriff’s patrol arrived about 1:45 a.m. Driver went to Fairview in Wyoming. DUI related charges are pending.

Also February 28 a possible vehicle theft gone wrong at a Shafer car sales business, with report of a utility vehicle hit and sitting in the middle of Highway 8.  It appeared the vehicle had been pushed off the car lot area.  State patrol didn’t have the report available at press time.  No people were found at the scene. Also a couple other calls same day in Shafer of vandalism activity, and an attempted mini-bike theft reported on Redfield Avenue  the same day, the bike was moved, but was left behind.
