Businesses, this is your last call to get into the 2016 Chisago Lakes Community and Visitor Guide. What exactly is the guide?  Each year we have produced a magazine that highlights each town in Chisago Lakes as well as the hundreds of events that we all celebrate.  It is filled with pertinent information that you and I can utilize daily. It is a handy reference book for city information, county information and municipal information. It is also your go-to book for local businesses. If you are looking for a certain business for merchandise or a service - they are in the book. There are hundreds of business listings as well as some great advertising from local businesses.

This guide is in its thirteenth year and has grown in size and popularity. In fact, 13 years ago we put out the first guide which had a measly 34 pages.  Last year we put out an 84 page guide that was packed with information and advertisers. This year it appears we will be increasing the page count again.  Businesses, this is your chance to make it in the guide. Prices are great, and the time is now.  Call us here at 651-257-5115 to get into the guide. You will be glad you did.

If you are a subscriber and would like to save some money, look on page two in the upper corner.  You will find a coupon that will save you $1.50 on a yearly subscription. That is a cup of coffee at Northwoods Roasterie or a brat from Deutschland Meats.

If you are not a subscriber, but have been purchasing the paper at the store, you can save some money as well. You can simply fill out the coupon on page 2 and we will get the best newspaper in Minnesota delivered right to your mailbox every week. Yes, we will honor the discount included on the coupon.

I thank each and every one of you for being the best, most informed, and loyal readers a newspaper could ever hope for.

Our family did manage to get away for a couple of days during spring break. No we didn’t ski in Aspen, or fly to Hawaii to spend the week on the beach. We drove to Two Harbors. Yep Two Harbors.  Not too much to do up there this time of the year, but we did go with some good friends and had no agenda. It was so nice just to relax, and to see the kids put down their phones for awhile.

This Sunday, Shafer Franconia Fire and Rescue invites all of you to their pancake breakfast.  Held at the Shafer Fire Hall, the breakfast features all you can eat pancakes, as well as scrambled eggs, sausage, and drinks.  The breakfast is very popular and you are free to come and go as you please.  It is a great fundraiser for the department and you get some great food.  The breakfast begins at 7 a.m. and lasts until supplies are gone.

Keep in mind that road construction is underway. We have the big one on Highway 8 and Highway 95. This is a very heavily traveled roadway which will now be detoured up 310th Street (the steep hill next to the Chisago House).  Trucks will be routed to Osceola and across the bridge up to St. Croix Falls and then to Taylors Falls.  Let’s just try to be extra careful, there will be a lot of people driving around our area who are not as familiar with this place as we all are.

Please remember the homeless.  As the weather warms, we tend to forget about those who are without. I am collecting spring/fall clothing for the homeless. If you are doing some spring cleaning, please keep in mind those who are in need.  You can drop off donations at the Press or I can come pick them up.  Thank you.
