East Central Habitat for Humanity breaks ground at site of summer house project
The homesite is south of 400th, on Cherokee, in an established residential neighborhood on the fringe of the North Branch “Interstate” business park.
The city contributed the lot and Mayor Kirsten Hagen Kennedy, city administrator Bridgitte Konrad, and Community Development Director Carla Vita, shared a few thoughts at the event.
Council members and citizens, many who are active in city beautification efforts, attended. Project supervisor Joey Launderville, a former Marine affiliated with North Branch Legion Post 85, introduced himself as project manager. He said he has 15 years’ experience in the construction trades, and is very excited to have a North Branch Habitat site specially designated for a veteran, and to volunteer for supervising the project.
Welcomed into the community as part of the site ceremony was the family receiving the Habitat home veteran Eric and JoAnn Trudeau and their four children.
The city has a downloadable sign-up sheet if you want to contribute any skills or just make sandwiches or help tote tools on site one day. There’s room for skilled and unskilled help, dates needing workers are generally early July and on. The project needs people who can do siding, lay sod and do planting, and there are painting and various other tasks yet to be covered.
If you want to help with garage frameup, this will be scheduled in June. The foundation and excavation tasks and rough frame are covered.
Baked goods and a pot luck style menu also need to be provided for refreshment on-site. This is a perfect opportunity for church youth or civic groups.
See the registration details on the website for the city at ww.ci.north-branch.mn.us or ask for a hard copy of the volunteer sheet at city hall.
