The Vikings got the top two finishers of the race while the ‘Cats had the third and fourth place runners. A lot of the meet came down to the next four runners, and it happened to go two more NB athletes before two other CL competitors crossed, giving North Branch a lead with an ultra low score of 25.
Senior Rhianna Rinke won her last NB Invite with a commanding time of 19:14.6. She beat the rest of the field by over a minute and 10 seconds.
Second place went to Jillian Yerges of North Branch, who came in with a time of 20:26. Third and fourth place went to Chisago Lakes’ Rebekah Olinger and Annika Dubbs, respectively. Olinger, a junior finished in 21:30, while Dubbs finished in 21:46.
Seventh grader Cora Hudella had a nice race for North Branch, finishing in fifth place, while sophomore Viking Gail Nelson came in 10th place.
CL’s Juliette Martin and Madison Douglas rounded out the top eight sweep by area teams with a seventh and eighth place finish.
The Vikings tallied 25 points while Chisago Lakes earned 36. They were almost 50 points clear of third place Rush City, who had 83 points. Hinckley-Finlayson finished fourth while Braham, East Central and North Lakes Academy had incomplete teams.
“It was a pretty fun meet. Most of our runners had PRs or close to one,” Chisago Lakes Head Coach Ken Orwoll said. “The girls ran very competitive, the best race I've seen them run all year.”
“Man alive and holy kind kitties...we were sure close to getting all 5k personal records,” North Branch Head Coach Anna Geary said excitedly.
Boys
On the boys side, only a couple of Braham runners broke up another top eight sweep by county teams.
Pendleton Sullivan earned first place in the meet for Braham , as well as his teammate Christian Patterson finishing fifth.
Between those guys, though, Luke Crouse finished second place for Chisago Lakes with a time of 17:53.0. Just behind him was Aiden Bear of North Branch who finished in 17:53.7, less than a second off the pace.
Nicholas Lindsey came in fourth place with a time of 18:00 flat.
Matt Stuber and Noah Pick from North Branch finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively.
The host Vikes won the meet with a total of 37 while Braham grabbed second on the backs of their top runners. Chisago Lakes finished in third place with 54 points.
The boys also ran well with six of them getting PRs. Luke Crouse and Nick Lindsey both had their sights on breaking 18 minutes,” Orwoll said. “Luke did it by seven seconds and Nick missed by less than a second. Augie Leopold was our third runner missing a PR by six seconds. They pushed each other the entire race. This was the best we have run all year as a team.”
