As we near  the election...er I mean Halloween, there are a few events and places for your family to take in for some fall fun.

Chisago City would like to invite you to come out to Ojiketa Regional Park for “Ojiketa Haunt”.  The haunt will host a haunted house, a haunted trail, and a ton of zombies.  The haunt takes place Friday and Saturday nights and runs until after Halloween.  The cost to attend the haunt is $5 per body or $3 if you bring a non-perishable food item.

If you are not into getting scared but still love Halloween, have you considered visiting an apple orchard or a pumpkin patch?  We have some wonderful places around here that are so fun to visit on a nice fall day.  It is getting to the point where most people are getting their pumpkins to carve and their apples to eat.  If there is anything better than a fresh local apple, I have yet to find it.

On Saturday, my family along with some friends had the privilege of working a shift at the Feed My Starving Children event at the Lakes Free Church, in Lindstrom.  We worked the morning shift, there already had been a Friday night shift and more planned on Saturday.  We had an absolute blast.  To see 142 people working in harmony and working their tails off to help starving children receive meals is hard to describe.  In all, there were 664 volunteers that worked the mobile pack.  Those people were responsible for packing 163,296 meals.  Those meals will feed 447 children one nutritious meal per day for a year.  The destination is not fully determined yet for the meals, but it is believed they will eventually end up in Haiti.

I would like to thank all of the men, women, and children who helped with the pack this year.  Thanks to all of the local churches for their assistance including helpers and financial help, thanks to the Chisago Lakes School, the Boy Scouts and the many community groups who participated in the event.

If this event comes back, look into doing it, I can’t emphasize enough how moving and satisfying it is.  Thanks again everyone.

If you have kids, mark your calendars for October 29. That’s when Chisago City will host their super popular Falloween Festival,  It is the largest Halloween get together for kids around.  Dress your kids in their costumes and head to Ojiketa Regional Park. Once there, they will be treated to a magic sho, trick-or-treating, a maze, a pumpkin hunt, games, a kid-friendly haunted house, face painting, and music.  The entire park is filled with everything Halloween.

The event is free and  all they ask you bring is a package of 4 roll toilet paper or a non-perishable food item.  They are trying to refill the local food shelf and this will definitely help.
The Falloween fest begins at 2:30 p.m. and runs until 4:30 and is located off Kirby Avenue in Chisago City at Ojiketa.

The folks at Trinity Lutheran Church are still accepting children’s winter clothing for their Outerwear Fair next week. You can bring your donations to the church and they will go to some very appreciative children who can use a little help.
