Margaret Peterson

Margaret Peterson
Margaret Peterson

Margaret Peterson was born August 27, 1911 in Shelly, MN to Martin and Selma Haugo.  She was the oldest of four children.  Her mother passed away when Margaret was five years old. The children were placed in the Twin Valley Lutheran Children's Home at Twin Valley MN for several years.  When the children first went there the orphanage wanted their father to run the light plant.  Because room and board were considered his wage he did not get a salary.  He left there and went to work in a neighboring town and visited them on weekends.  He drove a 1918 Grant and would take them for rides in the country.  She finished eighth grade there.

Margaret married Ruben Redland and they were the parents of five children, Roselyn, John, Stella, Wayne and Raymond.

After living on the prairie, in 1943 the family moved to Taylors Falls.  Margaret fell in love with the area and said she was never going to leave it and she didn't.  She held several jobs in the area.  The longest one was as a staff member at the Taylors Falls School.  She also worked at the Green Feather Cafe, the post office, Tschida's greenhouse and the laundry.

Margaret married Kermit Peterson in 1949.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.  Many family gatherings were held at their home and as the family grew, the gatherings kept getting bigger.

Margaret was a member of the Taylors Falls United Methodist Church for 72 years and felt very close to the church and its members.  She enjoyed baking for church activities and was still doing so not too many years ago.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Kermit; two sisters Ruth Stromstad and Hazel Holter, her brother Morris Haugo; grandsons Michael Borgstrom and his wife Lisa, David Redland; and great grandson Nicholas Borgstrom.  She is survived by her children Roselyn, John (Bonnie), Stella (Ken), Wayne (Sharon), and Raymond (Merrilee); also eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

After falling and breaking her hip Margaret moved in to the Christian Community Home of Osceola, WI  September 7.  In the early morning of September 8 she passed away peacefully in her sleep.  We will all miss her.

Funeral Service 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Taylors Falls First United Methodist Church.  Visitation one hour prior to the service at church.  Interment at Kahbakong Cemetery in Taylors Falls.
