He is preceded in death by parents Raymond and Lois Ongstad.
Alan is survived by wife of 25 years, Patricia; son Travis; siblings Mike (Mary) Ongstad, David Ongstad, Cindy (John) Majerle, and Mary (Don) Anderson; sister-in-law’s Barb (Tom Miller) Rosen and Carolyn (Frank) Owen; niece, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Al was born in Minneapolis and grew up in Fridley. He graduated from Columbia Heights High School and soon after joined the US Army and was stationed in Fort Carson, CO. Upon completion of his service he returned home to MN and was an employee at Perlman-Rocque/Martin-Brower in Fridley where he was a Teamster in the Local 120. He married Pat Rosen March 1992 in Reno, NV and they purchased a home near Center City, where they raised their son.
Al spent many weeks every year of his life on the North Shore, near Hovland, where his grandparents ran rental cabins and his extended family still live. He enjoyed being on the lake fishing, out in the woods grouse hunting, playing sports with his son and going on family vacations.
Celebration of Life Service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City. Visitation one hour prior to service at church. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
