Like tractors? You haven't seen anything like the Threshing Show

Like tractors? You haven't seen anything like the Threshing Show

This weekend is one of the more fun events in our area. The Almelund Threshing Show runs Friday through Sunday.  For those of you who have never attended the show, you don’t know what you are missing.  The Threshing Show is filled with over 700 tractors,  as far as the eye can see.  When you set foot on the threshing grounds, you instantly step back in time, a time when farming ruled and talk was about crops, not presidents.

If you come Friday, you will see a kids safety clinic, a tractor pull that starts at 5 p.m. and the Rockin’ Hollywoods palying in the beer garden.

Saturday is the popular pedal tractor pull (we have a friend whose daughter made it all the way to nationals at the Corn Palace), more tractor pulls at 2 p.m. and Dirt Road Dixie will play at the beer garden at night.

You are invited to a church service right on the grounds Sunday at 9 a.m.  There will be tractor pulls at 2 p.m. with the raffle for the free tractor and quilt being held at 4 p.m.

Everyday you will be able see steam threshing, a steam powered sawmill, silage cutting, glass blowing, a petting zoo, a massive flea market, a blacksmith shop and lots, lots more.  Oh, did I mention there is some of the best food (and beer) around.  so if you haven’t made it out to the show, I urge you to come try it out, we will see you out there.

While summer is getting close to being wrapped up (school starting I mean) there are still plenty of great weeks to get out and enjoy our local Farmers Markets. Sweet corn is in and it is wonderful.  Same with many berries and great fruit. Chisago City and Lindstrom’s Farmers Markets are great and offer some wonderful things.   Make a point to get out and buy local.

Remember folks, if you have a few dollars laying around, and you are out shopping, the good folks at Edward Jones are collecting school supplies. These supplies will go directly to children and students whose families have fallen on hard times and can’t afford supplies at the moment.  If you choose to help, simply buy any school supplies including backpacks, and drop them off at any of the three Edward Jones offices we have in our area. Thanks for helping!

Well, it’s official, I am old.  Our youngest has passed her drivers test and is now free to roam.

I was sitting in bed this morning thinking that my life is passing like the speed of light. It was yesterday I was taking her to her first day at pre-school.  I swear it was yesterday..it sure feels like it.

Sometimes at home I can feel and hear myself getting cranky. I have no reason to be, I have a wonderful family, a great job and my health.  But the way I see it, my mood swings have to be attributed to the fact that I can see the end of the tunnel ahead.

Soon (like in a few weeks) our kids will leave the house for the last time. I am not ready for that.

I am not ready to not have one or both children dependent on me. I am already missing the days when they would come to me for advice and really listen when I spoke.

I know they will be fine in life, it is me that I worry about.
