Why is the front page white? Ki Chi Saga Days is up and running
This week, more than 320 newspapers across the State of Minnesota will publish no news on their front pages. This “Whiteout” is taking place during Minnesota Newspaper Week, August 13-19, as part of the Minnesota Newspaper Association’s yearlong celebration of its 150th Anniversary. The Whiteout reminds Minnesotans of the important role that newspapers play, writing the first draft of history and telling the stories of their communities.
Which brings us to the Chisago County Press. Are we a small newspaper, a mere pittance compared to some of the mega papers in the state? Of course. Can we put out as much content as the papers that employ 35 reporters who work around the clock? Last time I checked the answer was no. What we are is a group of six who bust our tails each and every week to bring you the most up-to-date local news that we possibly can. Do we miss stories occasionally? Of course, but we give it our all. Our only goal is to have our readers set down the paper and be more informed than before they started reading it. We have such amazing stories, people and businesses in our area, and THAT is the reason we keep going. Is it tough running a newspaper in this day and age? The answer is obvious. But we look at it as a challenge. You are our payoff. If you are happy, then we don’t care what the naysayers say.
Bottom line is YOU make our paper. This is your paper for your community. Thanks for letting us work here.
One of the two largest town celebrations of our area takes place this week. Ki Chi Saga Days begins today. If you look in this Press, you will find an ad for a huge city-wide garage sale with all of the addresses for your convenience. Frankie is holding his fishing tournament tonight and the public is invited to come play in the cribbage tournament tonight (thurs) at the Chisago City Community Center.
Friday the good folks at MidWest One Bank invite the public to appreciation day. There will be fun and games for kids and some great food. In Moberg Park there will be a bouncy house, live music and of course the wonderful farmers market. Friday night, grab the kids and head to Paradise Park for a sandcastle contest and outdoor movie. Batman Lego movie will be shown and I am told that Batman may be there and available for photos.
Saturday kicks off with the annual 5K run/walk at Zion Lutheran Church. Kids are invited back to the community center for a display of big trucks. At 9 a.m., clues will be posted for Moberg’s missing bike horn. Clues will be posted at City Hall. Grab the kids and head to Paradise Park for the kids fishing tournament. Great prizes will be given away.
Your kids can get free face painting and hair flair at Moberg Park on Saturday. Announcing of the 2017 Little Miss will take place at noon at the pavillion in Moberg Park. Moberg Park will be filled with tons of live entertainment such as bands and cloggers every day.
Frankie’s invites you to the street dance Saturday night. The dance begins at 7 p.m. At dusk, in Paradise Park, you will find a great fireworks show, so bring your blankets.
Sunday there are more great music acts in Moberg Park along with a magic show. The grand day parade meanders down Old Towne Road at 2 p.m. and Ki Chi Saga Days wraps up with a pie eating contest at Moberg Park. I WILL see you there!
