George Claude Anderson

George Claude Anderson, age 84 of North Branch passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Bickford (formerly Gracewood) Assisted Living Residence in North Branch, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

George was born January 14, 1933 on the family farm south of North Branch, in Lent Township, the fourth and youngest child of Claude and Lillie (Olson) Anderson.  George attended school until the eighth grade at which point he needed to devote 100 percent of his time to helping with the family farm. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch.  George loved music and singing and participated for many years in the church choir and after retirement continued singing with Donna in the Joyful Voices Choir.

On March 29, 1958 he was united in marriage to Donna (Larson) at Faith Lutheran Church in Isanti.  The couple resided on George’s family farm where they raised their three children.  Georg was a very hard worker.  In addition to farming he drove school bus and later became a truck driver and proud Teamster.  He loved the family farm and surrounding oak woods.  In the winter he enjoyed snowmobiling and skiing through those woods, he often remarked that winter was his favorite season.  George was an accomplished horseshoe pitcher and participated in many tournaments.  In addition he also loved to roller skate and it was at Moulton Roller Rink in Rush City where he met Donna.  After retirement George and Donna moved to Harris.  The couple enjoyed traveling and visited 48 of the 50 states.  Camping was also a favorite activity. The grandchildren have many fond memories of those camping adventures.  Whether it be dance recitals, football games or tennis matches George and Donna faithfully attended the events of their grandchildren.  George will be remembered as a very loving and patient father and grandfather.  He was instrumental in helping to raise his grandchildren and taught them many life skills, such as how to ride a bike, drive a car and build roaring camp fires.

George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna, son Daniel (Valerie) Anderson of North Branch, daughter Charlene (Donovahn) Nyberg of Sedalia, CO and daughter in law Shelly Anderson of Anoka.  Grandchildren McKenzie Chaz (Shuani) Elizabeth and Britta Anderson; one great grandchild Zachary, brother Clarence (Carol) of Isanti, sister in law Patricia (Bill) Mathews of Rockford, IL and several nieces and nephews.  George is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Alice Sjoquist and Elaine Swenson and his son Zach in 1994.
