Injury in tow truck crash
The state patrol and local authorities were at the scene of a tow truck crash-- off northbound I-35 at Rush Point Drive-- Tuesday morning (Feb. 21) about 4:30 a.m.

The preliminary report from the state patrol is that the driver of the truck, a 36 year old male, Travis Widner, from Brooklyn Center, was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. He went off the road and struck a guardrail, according to the patrol.

Sheriff’s patrol and Lakes Area Police were alerted about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, February 19, that a man was being pursued by Wisconsin authorities and that the suspect was crossing the state border, driving west on Highway 8.  

Wisconsin law enforcement had pursued the suspect for some 50 miles, identified as 28-year-old Logan Reese.  He was believed to have fatally stabbed his mother and set a small fire in his apartment building and  fled.  

According to Wisconsin authorities, Reese had shot at pursuit vehicles during the interstate chase and he was to be approached with caution.

Reese drove into a guardrail/barrier near the new roundabout,  just west of Taylors Falls with his car, and when Chisago County deputies arrived at the vehicle they found him dead. It is believed the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot.
