Ruth was born on September 6, 1922 in Center City to parents, Frank and Agda (Lindgren) Nelson. She was raised on the family farm east of Center City and was confirmed at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in 1937. She graduated from Chisago Lakes High School in 1940. Ruth married Robert Appleby on September 12, 1947 at the Chisago Lake Lutheran Parsonage. Ruth and Robert built and lived in a home on Highway 8 a mile east of Center City for 55 years. Ruth worked in food services at Hazelden Foundation for several years. She was a lifelong member of Chisago Lake Lutheran Church. She also helped deliver Meals on Wheels in the Chisago Lakes area for 30 years. She was a big sports fan watching kids, grandkids, great grandkids and Minnesota sports teams. She thoroughly enjoyed hosting big family holiday dinners and inviting relatives and friends that didn’t have another place to be.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Agda (Lindgren) Nelson, husband of 62 years, Robert; infant daughter, brothers Chester, Rudy and Eldor Nelson; sister Ethelyn Lundholm; brother-in-law Charles Appleby; sister-in-law Myrtle Bradley and son-in-law George Dady. She is survived by her children, Jerry (Marilyn) Appleby of Austin, TX; Carol Dady of White Bear Lake and Darlene (Clayton) Peltier of Chisago City; grandchildren Darren (Heather) Appleby, Deanna (Brad) Mauritzen, Jeff (Tiffany) Dady, Angie (Derrik) Peterson, Aaron Peltier and Matt Peltier; great grandchildren Isaac, Regan and Luke Appleby, Hallie and Evan Mauritzen and Paige and Madden Peterson. She is also survived by brother-in-law Richard (Alice) Appleby, sisters-in-law Viola Menkal and Maxine Appleby and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends
Funeral services 11 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2017 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City with Rev. Craig Lundstad-Vogt officiating. Music was provided by Marilyn Wahlstrom and Dan Ford. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Center City.
