The ‘Cats finished in the middle of the pack overall at the invite, but their 127.8 was a their best score of the year.
“It was our first meet after the holiday break -- never sure how the meet will go after the long break from our meet schedule,” Head Coach Brett Kjos said after the meet. “Some girls were putting in new skills that they have worked on over the break.”
The results were a fifth place finish, which is where Kjos expected them to be. He noted that the top four teams were currently out of CL’s reach. Those four teams finished within 1.15 points of each other from 137 to 135.85.
Chisago Lakes got a few top 15 finishes at the meet, but nobody finished higher than sixth for the ‘Cats. That result came from a returning Izzy Hindt, who got sixth on her floor routine with a score of 9.0. This was her first meet back after injuring herself early in the season during practice. Lydia Trandahl also finished 15th in that event, which was a personal best for her.
On the beam, Claudia Stipe tied for 10th place and Savannah Gorski came in 15th.
On the vault, Callie Schlegel was CL’s top finisher in 14th place with a score of 8.3.
The uneven bars saw Stipe as the top finisher in 14th place with a score of 8.05.
The top all around finishers for Chisago Lakes were seventh grader Stipe, who came in 10th place with a score or 32.6. Savannah Gorski was right behind her with a 31.75 in 12th place. Stipe’s score was an all around personal best for her.
The girls have been working hard and are improving their difficulty and execution in their routines,” Kjos said. “Once again, though, too many falls on the balance beam -- when we figure out that event, our scores should really improve.”
Kjos is a bit nervous about the upcoming part of the ‘Cats schedule, though. They get very busy, very soon, and that means a lot of meets but not many practices. “We shall see how it all shakes out,” Kjos said.
The schedule includes an early week meet against Princeton on Tuesday, January 10. That’s the start of a stretch of six meets in two weeks for CL, which includes away meets at River Falls, WI, North Branch and Rush City
