Chisago County Fair is worth the short drive! CC Days is coming!

Chisago County Fair is worth the short drive! CC Days is coming!

I hope you had a chance to take in some of the great events at this year's Karl Oskar Days. There was something for everyone this year.  Congrats to the lucky snuff box finders - apparently the hider (whomever they are) needs to hide better or write harder clues.  The snuff box was found on field 12 at the high school (the one with the golden gate) in an electrical enclosure box (don't worry it was very safe). Maybe next year the hunt will last into the weekend.

Other than some storms that were desperately trying to ruin local trees and structures, all in all the weather was perfect for KOD.  The fireworks were the best they have ever had, with some that went into the water and then into the sky.  The beach was the place to be, all weekend long there was stuff going on at Lindstrom beach.  The car show had more cars than I can ever remember and the Loppet run looked nice and full again this year.

The parade didn't disappoint, it was super long filled with great floats.  The ambassadors crowned (forgive the pun) the weekend off with Mandy Rochel, Rachael Shanley and Gina Virga winning.  There were some super young women in the coronation and any of them would have represented Lindstrom with class.

Thank you to the Karl Oskar Committee members who meet year round to ensure that you and I have fun at the celebration.  I would list them, but I am confident that I would omit someone and that wouldn't be fair. So a GIANT collective thank you to all who contributed to another great Karl Oskar Days. This place is amazing!

If you are still in the local celebration mood, this weekend has another great one. The Chisago County Fair is taking place right now through Sunday evening.  The fair is hailed as the best four days of summer.

Held in Rush City, the fair is just a short jaunt up Highway 61 or Interstate 35.  Easy to get to, the fair is a super fun place to meet with your friends and neighbors as well as people from other Chisago County towns and cities.  The fair begins with animals of all makes and models with 4H holding many shows. The midway with rides and games opens Thursday (today) as well.  Thursday night is the annual motocross event.  They start racing at 7 p.m.

Friday there is more fair fun with rides, 4H shows and the parade which begins at 3 sharp.  Friday finishes with my favorite the demolition derby which gets going at 7 p.m. The demolition derby will be two nights this year so you can also catch it on Saturday night if you missed it Friday.

I am telling you folks, the fair is fun. If you have kids they will love it. There are six barns full of animals, many of which they can pet and meet the owners, who are in 4H.  Come on out and have some local fun.

I am part of the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.  Every year for quite some time, we volunteer our time-- as do many local residents-- at the Chisago Lakes Triathlon.  It is a fun time, helping the runners, bikers and swimmers as they meander their way across Chisago City, Stacy, Almelund, Taylors Falls, Center City and Lindstrom.  It takes a lot of volunteers to make such a big event work.  That’s why we are still looking for a few more volunteers to assist us July 30.  If you could spare an hour, two hours or whatever, we can use you.  There are so many stations and different kinds of work to be done, I am sure we can fit into your schedule.  Please call the chamber at 651-257-1177 to volunteer, I will see you out there.

Speaking of the last weekend in July, make sure to mark your calendars and set some time to take in Center City Days.  On Friday, July 28, the CL Lutheran Church will hold its rummage sale, there will be a town Bingo at the fire hall and a street dance featuring Maiden Dixie.

Saturday will host a kids fishing tournament, inflatables, a triathlon (please call 257-6822 to register), all day music and a hunt for the missing lutefish.  There is a community pig roast at CL Lutheran, and yes for the first time since 1982, a parade.

I will talk more next week and look for all the information you need in this weekend’s Search Shopper.
