Doug Rignell, a Christian man known for always showing great devotion to his family, friends and his community, has left his earthly mission and gone to be with Jesus.

Doug was 75. He had a strong faith that he would be reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Marilyn (Lindberg) Rignell. Doug was also preceded in death by  parents, Carl and Muriel Rignell and by Marilyn’s parents Lewis and Harriet Lindberg.

Doug is remembered as being loving, caring and patient by sons, Paul Rignell (Britta) of Harris and Mark Rignell of Columbia Heights. Doug is also remembered fondly by his brother, Dave (Marlys) Rignell of Cambridge and sister-in-law Marge (Rod) Westerman of Newcastle, OK. Other surviving family members include a niece, four nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Doug spent all of his youth in the Forest Lake school district, graduating with the Forest Lake High School Class of 1960.

Doug and Marilyn married on April 20, 1968, in St. Paul and they made their home in Chisago City. They made many friends in the community including at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Doug spent most of his working career with the U.S. Postal Service, serving as postmaster in Chisago City and Almena, WI. After his postal retirement, Doug worked as a grocery stocker and bagger at Brink’s Market in Chisago City.

Doug supported others in his home community in many ways, including as a volunteer Rescue Squad driver in the ’70s. He and Marilyn also gave many years with the Chisago City Booster Club, and they watched lots of varsity basketball at Chisago Lakes High School. They sang with Zion church choir for about 40 years and they also stayed active with many other church commitments.

Doug’s other interests included camping, traveling, card games and square dancing, always enjoying everything in life more with Marilyn. Doug’s favorite pastimes with his sons included watching sports, particularly Twins baseball and Minnesota Gopher basketball.

Doug is greatly missed by his family, his friends, and the community members who came to know him through his work and volunteering.

Family and friends honored Doug with a visitation Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, and one hour prior to the service at church Funeral Service 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19 at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City.
