Chisago County deputies assisted Wisconsin authorities and National Park Service at the scene of a near drowning, Saturday July 22. The woman victim died a day later.
A woman was pulled from the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix River unresponsive, near the Osceola Landing July 22. Chisago County Chief Deputy Brandon Thyen said he just finished a news briefing with media, at Taylors Falls, and was among those responding to the nearby call. He was speaking to reporters regarding ongoing efforts to retrieve a kayaker, who was presumed to have drowned a week ago.
An empty kayak and car keys belonging to Vue Her, were found ashore last week and his vehicle was located parked at Interstate Park.
Thyen said the missing man’s family and the Hmong community requested television news crews to attend the briefing to reinforce local media coverage, in case Her is alive and can’t contact his family.
Polk County Wisc. Sheriff’s Department reported the woman from the Osceola Landing incident succumbed July 23 in the hospital, She was identified as Stacie Meehan, 40, from Balaton, MN.
Work starts on Hwy. 8 east of St Croix River
Wisconsin DOT warns people who use Highway 8, through St. Croix Falls, that this stretch will be under repairs as of this week.
Work is supposed to last until fall. The highway will be single lane at times.
The Wisc. Dept of Transportation is replacing and repairing road surface concrete and bridge deck overlays are also part of the project.
There were a number of thefts in the Lakes Area Police service area over the week. A trailer, black with a dropdown gate, an ATV and a receiver hitch cargo carrier and a set of golf clubs were reported stolen, all from Chisago City addresses.
