Overgaard averaged a score of 74.83 throughout the Mississippi 8 Conference schedule, winning the East Division and finished fourth overall. At the state tournament last week, he shot matching 84s to finish tied for 74th place among the 88 golfers at the meet.
In his first round, Overgaard teed off at 9 a.m. and carded a 44 on his front nine. He rebounded for a nice 40 on the back nine, but he already found himself down strokes.
In the second day, Overgaard tried to make that up, but it didn’t quite go the way he wanted, shooting a 73-71 for another 84.
The state meet trip to Bunker is hopefully just the beginning for Overgaard, as he has two more years to make progress in his golf game. His jump from freshman year to sophomore year was huge, and if he continues on that path, there will be many more accolades coming his way.
