Roger died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family on June 17, 2017. Roger graduated from high school in Tower, Minnesota and then attended Stout State College. Always a “Ranger” at heart Roger returned with his family to Tower for the 4th of July every year until he was no longer able to travel.
He worked at Frost Paint in Minneapolis for 10 years. He then moved to 3M and retired from there on his 65th birthday. While at 3M as an engineer he traveled the world and developed several products which he earned patents for. He earned his private pilot’s license in 1989 and enjoyed flying Cessnas for several years . He and Georgia bought a hobby farm near Almelund where he fell in love with old tractors and mowing grass. He was active in the Lions Club in Minneapolis. He was active as a volunteer in local DFL politics in Chisago County after retiring. He enjoyed driving an antique tractor pulling a float in many area parades.
Preceded in death by his father, Rognar Anderson; mother Agnes Avikainen; step-father, Owen Avikainen of Tower, MN.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Georgia Hoyt Anderson; daughter Susan Schmalz; son-in-law Tom Schmalz; grandaughter Katie Schmalz (Leif Lusty); sister Linda (Keith) Carlon of Buhl, MN and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be 11 AM Sat. June 24 at Roberts Family Life Celebration Home, 555 SW Centennial Dr., Forest Lake. Interment at Gordon Memorial Cemetery, Gordon, WI at a later date.
