A set of downed powerlines required Lakes Area Police attention during the episodes of high winds recently...one at Olinda and Newell, in Lindstrom and one fell aross Hwy. 8 at Lofton/Old Towne.  No injuries reported, Xcel came and handled the calls. Also, a downed low voltage cable (phone/TV?) fell at Kost Trail in Sunrise. Deputies were able to move it off the road. A truck-car accident happened in Shafer March 7 when a driver braked upon seeing a wire in the roadway and was rear-ended by a pickup truck driver. The black-colored truck left the scene. Shafer firefighters addressed the line down on Redwing Avenue.

March 12 a grass fire reported about 3:40 p.m. at Wilcox Road in Sunrise. Property owner said he was burning cardboard and it jumped into long dry grass.

March 11 a two-vehicle crash reported at Hwy. 95 and Park Trail about 2:40 p.m.  A preliminary report states that a 31 year old woman from Minneapolis was westbound on #95 when a vehicle pulled out in front of her, she said. The second vehicle was driven by a 23-year old from Harris.  A camera positioned at Rod’s Country Corner will be reviewed.  Marijuana and pipes were also allegedly retrieved from inside the vehicle traveling on Highway 95.  The state patrol is investigating.

March 10 there was a report of a man inside a house on Algonquin Trail at 3 a.m. The woman contacted authorities after running to the neighbors’  when Lakes Area police arrived the man came out her front door and was identified as the husband and home owner.

Also March 10 a fire was put out by Rush City firefighters on 460th about 6:30 p.m.. which was a permitted burn but had gotten out of hand.

March 9 a resident on Granada Avenue (Wyoming-Chisago City) called to report he had come home and observed there had been a forced entry break-in and the bedroom had been “gone through.” Lakes Area and Wyoming officers cleared the house.

March 8 a car fire in a garage resulted in Chisago City firefighters being dispatched. The small fire was out when crews arrived and they helped to get the vehicle out of the structure. Call came in about 6:45 p.m.

Lakes Area Police also took a grey and white Husky type dog to North Woods Humane Society last week after a local veterinarian had held the dog briefly,  brought in as a stray.  The dog was caught near Hwy. 8 and Olinda.
