The district sought $59.2 million for projects to improve or replace HVAC systems, to add sprinklers, to do deferred maintenance, etc. This was Question One and it passed 1,844 votes to 1,132.
The second question sought approval to sell bonds to raise $10.9 million for two gymnasium stations and assorted major projects to enhance physical education and athletic programs. This passed 1,623 yes to 1,346.
The second question could not be approved without the first question passing.
And, Question Three was voter approval for an annual levy on property taxes of $500,000 for technology needs. Bonds will not be sold, this is a property tax levy dedicated to technology in the district.
The North Branch District is running with no local voter-approved funding and is among the lower-funded per pupil districts in the state. There hasn’t been a successful referendum for well over a decade.
Superintendent Dr. Deb Henton released a statement after the vote tallies had come in, “We are incredibly grateful to our community for their support of our 3,000 students and more than 400 staff through their yes votes. Strong schools make strong communities and we will work hard to make the most of each and every dollar invested in our success.”
The district now begins to consult with financial experts and....work through the next steps, the superintendent concluded.
