Donna was born at home in Amador Township on December 17, 1934 to Charlie and Edna (Anderson) Thorsell. Donna’s faith was an integral part of her life. She was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund. Donna graduated from North Branch High School in 1953. After high school, she worked and lived in Minneapolis for a number of years.
Donna had grown up knowing Roy Johnson from Luther League. They started dating and were married at Immanuel Lutheran September 5, 1959 after Roy’s discharge from the Army. They moved to a farm near Palmdale where they lived for over 58 years of marriage. She was a homemaker, raising three boys and helping on the farm where she could. Donna’s greatest joy came from spending time with others. She enjoyed family get togethers, celebration and her grandchildren. She like going out to eat with friends and family. If she couldn’t spend time with people in person, she reached out to them through cards and letters. She was active in church, civic, and bible study groups. She loved attending and watching sporting events of all kinds, whether it was the local high school teams, softball in Almelund or watching the Twins and Olympics on TV.
Donna is survived by husband Roy; sons Wayne (Rachel), Vern and Darin (Ann); grandchildren DeAnna Scofield and Elizabeth, Adam, and Sarah Johnson; six great grandchildren; sisters Bonnie Hagen and Janice Patterson; and many other family and friends. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Beverly, sister, Lois Hareid and daughter in law, Cindy Johnson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund with Rev. Marla Amborn officiating. Visitation will take place at church Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
