Marvin Curtis Blomquist, age 88, of North Branch, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Gracewood Senior Living in North Branch, as a result of complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Marvin was born on September 19, 1929 to John and Ruth (Miller) Blomquist in Taylors Falls, MN.  Growing up near Almelund, Immanuel Lutheran Church became his childhood spiritual home.  He received his grade school education at the Almelund School before attending high school in North Branch.  On March 14, 1947, he married Dorothy Mae Swanson, a union blessed with two sons.  Initially residing in Harris, Marvin moved his family to Brooklyn Center in 1955 to shorten the commute to his job as a carpenter.  In Brooklyn Center, he became a charter member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church and began years of active involvement as a Boy Scout Leader.

In 1962, the Blomquist family returned to Harris where Marvin established his own home building and remodeling company.  He became a devoted member of First Lutheran Church of Harris; serving for many years on the Church Council, singing in the choir, and voluntarily providing countless hours of maintenance work on the building.  Furthermore, he formed and led a Boy Scout Troop and was an active member of the Harris Lions Club.  Late in life, he moved to North Branch where he enjoyed his retirement years.

After the death of his first wife, Marvin married Linda Watson, on September 15, 2001.

Most of Marvin’s pastimes centered on family and friends with laughter, talk, and humor.  He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, canoeing, camping, campfires, and just being outdoors.  Marv loved music; singing with his parents and siblings, singing in the church choir, and dancing to or listening to big band music. In retirement, before ill health slowed him down, he traveled.  Marv’s great photography documents those travels.  Among his favorite travel destinations were Scandinavia, Alaska, and California and his favorite travel companion was his wife, Linda.  During quiet times he read, especially Louis L’Amour westerns and World War II history. He felt blessed to have a career that matched his passion for woodworking and a life surrounded by family and friends, whom he loved and who in turn loved him.

Marvin is survived by his wife Linda; sons, Steve (Lori) Blomquist of Almelund and Scott (Kathy) Blomquist of North Branch; step-daughters Tamara (Ken) Reichkitzer of Battle Creek, MI and Desiree Davis of Harris; daughter-in-law Connie Blomquist of Harris;  grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Curt (Denise) Blomquist, Tate and Vaida; Mark (Jenny) Blomquist, Drew, Seth, and Faith; Aimee (Adam) Donahue, Lilee and Adalee; Jon Blomquist; Matthew Blomquist; Erin (Randy) Howlett, Jasmine, Savannah, and Alexander; Anne (Chad) Williams, Mason and Abby; Nathan Reichkitzer; Nolan Reichkitzer; Joshua Davis and Kathryn Davis.  Sisters:  Charlotte Connoy of New Hope, Marion Talbot of St. Anthony, Eileen (Duane) Fisk of North Branch, and Sharalyn (Butch) Olson of North Branch.

Marvin is preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy; brothers Franklin and Jerry; sister Kathy Schroer, and infant sister Delores.
The family thanks the caregivers at Gracewood Senior Living and Ecumen Hospice for their loving care.

Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, North Branch; Immanuel Lutheran Church, Almelund; or First Lutheran Church, Harris.
