Opioid crisis in our area? It is everywhere, learn how to help

On April 18, the entire community is invited to the Chisago Lakes High School Performing Arts Center for a seminar on an epidemic that is real and is in our neighborhoods.  The seminar will teach us about the opioid crisis and will be feature speakers from Hazelden Betty Ford, Chisago County Sheriff’s Department, Lakes Area Police Department, Community Partnership and Pharmacist Dr. Brent Thompson.

Opioid abuse is real. It is life changing for the abuser and their families.  The rate of death directly related to opioid use is astronomical.  The FDA has classified the opioid crisis as their biggest crisis to date.  In 2016, 64,000 americans overdosed and perished due to opioid use.

This is real. We need to do something.  This is our chance to educate ourselves and the community on the utter destruction opioids can cause.  The seminar will begin at 6 pm and will run until 8:30 pm.

Folks, I would ask you to please keep the local food shelf in mind when you are looking through your pantries.  If you are like us, you have plenty of non-perishable food items that have been sitting for a while and most likely will be for quite a while to come.  Why not donate them to the local food shelf in Chisago City or North Branch?  You will be helping our friends and neighbors get through rough spots for these people.  Anything you can donate IS appreciated and WILL be used.  The address for the food shelf in Chisago City is 10586 Liberty Lane and their phone number is 257-1308. The address for the food shelf in North Branch is 6381 Main St and their phone number is 674-8313. Thank you so much for helping.

On Friday, Chisago Lakes Community Education cordially invites al mothers and sons grades pre-K thru 5th grade to their annual Mother Son Jamin Fun Dance.

The dance begins at 6 pm at the Middle School and will have a DJ, bean bag toss contest, Bingo, fishing, photo booth, a ice cream sundae bar, a yo-yo performance, crafts and of course refreshments.

This is a chance for moms to have a quality night with their sons that they will remember forever.

The dance is not a dress up event, just come as you are and have some serious fun.
