Doug was born in Luck, Wisconsin to Cecelia and Victor Streed. He was married to Dorothy Anne Johnson, and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in dentistry. Later in his career, and in addition to running his practice; Douglas returned to the University as a clinical instructor.
After graduation from dental school, Doug entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany where he attained the rank of Captain. He then started a dental practice in Lindstrom MN, where he practiced for over 35 years. Doug and Dorothy had three children, who remember him as a loving, supportive father, and a kind and gentle man. When Dorothy passed just as retirement started. Doug reinvented his life with new projects and passions. He instructed skiing at Steamboat, CO into his eighties, and amazed his children with his many solo building projects and volunteer work. He loved to golf with his buddies, and, especially loved working on home and yard projects while looking at "his" lake. After 15 years on his own, Doug was fortunate to find love and companionship with Judy Lifgren and her family.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his five older sisters and his wife Dorothy.
He is survived by his children Catherine Simpkins (William), Susan McNaughton (Jay), Scott Streed (Beth), grandchildren Scott and Kelsey Simpkins, Laurel and Arie Streed, and Sam and Julia McNaughton, along with many nieces and nephews, and his special partner Judy Lifgren.
A celebration of Doug's life will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday May 20, Zion Lutheran Church, Chisago City, MN. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children are preferred. The family would like to thank the staff at Gracewood Senior Living and Olive Grove Hospice for their love and care in Doug's final days.
