Walden E. Johnson, age 91 of North Branch passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Estates at Rush City.

Walden was born on July 29, 1928 in Lindstrom to parents, Albert and Emily (Hall) Johnson.  He grew up with his sisters, Hope and Faith, his uncle Elmer and grandfather, Nels August.   Walden was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Lindstrom.  He attended Chi Hi and Dunwoody Institute and earned his GED after discharge from the Army.  Walden served in the U. S. Army from October 1944 to July 1946 on a ship in the English Channel when the war ended and served in Germany until his discharge.   Upon his return to Lindstrom from military duty he worked at Seeger’s for a while and later acquired two milk routes for the Lindstrom Creamery.

Walden married Lois Morland on October 24, 1953.  Shortly after they were married they bought a house in Lindstrom.  In 1956 their daughter, Christine was born.  In 1957 they exchanged their house for Willie and Alma Reed’s farm near Almelund.  Their son, Mark was born in 1959.  Walden continued to operate the milk routes for a while and started buying cows and farm equipment.  He later acquired the Ulrich farm and continued farming until 1988 when he sold the farm to his son, Mark.  He and Lois bought a house in North Branch which they enjoyed for almost 19 years.

Walden was an active member in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund serving on the church council, the building committee and ushering.  He served on the Almelund Creamery Board and Soil Conservation.  He was a member of the Lindstrom VFW serving as Commander and Quartermaster.  Walden spent many Memorial Days taking part in the services at the various cemeteries.  He and Lois delivered Meals on Wheels for 15 years.  In 2008 they received Chisago County’s Outstanding Senior Citizens Award.

Walden is survived by his wife Lois, daughter Christine (Steve) Schumacher; son Mark (Theresa) Johnson; his eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister Hope Rummel, brother in law, Bert Arkman and nieces, nephews and many friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Carmen, sister Faith and sister in law Audrey.

He was a loving and kind man all of his life who will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund with Rev. Marla Amborn officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.  Family interment will take place at a later date.
