Barb was born July 27, 1934 at Bethesda Hospital in St Paul to George and Myrtle Larson (Rublee) of North Branch, MN. She graduated from North Branch High School; then attended Macalester College for her Associate degree and the University of Minnesota - College of Education where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Her first teaching position was in Robbinsdale, MN. She later taught at Coleraine, MN, then North Branch, MN and lastly, the Chisago Lakes School district at locations in Shafer, Lindstrom and Chisago City, MN. She taught second grade at all these schools over a 38 year timeframe, from 1956 to 1994. She loved second graders the most. They were fun to teach and eager to learn.
On March 21, 1959 she married her high school sweetheart Duane Damm of North Branch, MN. They were happily married for over 59 years. They lived in North Branch until 1968, when they bought an 80 acre farm near Center City, and built a house they lived in until 2014. On the farm they raised polled Hereford cattle, horses and dogs. They were involved with 4H, FFA, County Fair activities when their two kids were living at home until graduation. While Barb taught, Duane worked as a tool and die maker at several companies. The past four years, since selling the farm, they have lived in a townhouse in Chisago City. Barb enjoyed reading, cooking, spending time with family, church activities, swimming classes, playing cards and laughing. She loved people.
She is preceded in death by her parents George and Myrtle Larson and sisters Jeanne Larson and Joanne (Larson, Mackenhausen) Kellermann.
She is survived by husband Duane, daughter Susan (Jon) Cibuzar, son Norman (Holly) Damm, grandchildren Ben, Jess and Jon Damm, Katie and Cassie Cibuzar, as well as many extended family members and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Celebration of Life ceremony will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Grandstrand Funeral Home, 11900 Lake Lane North, Lindstrom. Visitation one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
