Max was diagnosed in July 2016 with Infantile Spasm Seizures, which left him in and out of New York Presbyterian/Cornell-Weill Hospital for much of his life. In May of 2018, testing determined Max was one of only four children in the world with a progressive rare genetic mutation, and the only child in the United States. Max was moved to St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in June 2018 and resided there until his passing.
Max is preceded in death by his grandmother, Jodi DeMarre (Lindstrom, MN). He is survived by parents Adam Valle and Jenna Heller (Brooklyn, NY); sister Amara Valle and brother Dylan Blank; grandparents Norberto Valle (New York City), Carol Clark (Morrisville, PA), Al Heller (Cottage Grove, MN); great-grandparents Duane and Phyllis DeMarre (Lindstrom, MN) and Bob and Carmen Heller (Cottage Grove, MN); as well as many friends, aunts, uncles and special friends Julie Harting and Tiffany Miller.
A special thank you to all the staff of both Cornell-Weill and St. Mary’s Hospital for Children and their loving care of Max over the last two years.
A memorial service was Sunday, August 19 at Scarpaci Funeral Home in Brooklyn, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside, NY.
