Dorothy Leisch
She was born on October 12, 1931, one of three children born to Paul and Lillian (Vitalis) Nelson in Lindstrom Township. She attended Lindstrom/Center City schools and after high school attended Bethesda Nursing School in St. Paul, MN graduating in 1952. She then worked as an industrial nurse at Toro Manufacturing and the Veteran’s Hospital in Minneapolis.
Prior to those positions, she worked at Ladd Memorial Hospital in Osceola, Wisconsin. It was there that she met her husband of 63 years; Louis (Sonny) Leisch. They lived in Osceola, South Minneapolis, and New Brighton before moving to Lindstrom in 1970.
A major part of her life was spent giving back to her community. The Red Cross Blood Bank, Trinity Lutheran Church Council and Alter Guild, Balsam Lake Homeowners Association, and the Legion Auxiliary were the primary places she volunteered. She was passionate about refinishing furniture, playing bridge, following sports, gardening/canning, and spending time at her beloved Balsam Lake. She endured many surgeries and remained diligent about rehabbing to continue an active, hardworking life.
She is survived by her husband Louis Leisch; daughter Carrie Leisch (Dave Ryan), son Matt Leisch (Kim Moroni); grandchildren Maxi, Dante, Michel, and Gianni Moroni; sister Mary Schmitz (Dale), brother Lee Nelson (Mary), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service at church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society, Red Cross, or Ecumen Hospice are preferred. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
