Beatrice was born to parents, Henning and Edith Carlson, on January 29, 1928, in Cloquet, MN, as the youngest of five children. She graduated from Cloquet High School in 1946 and from St. Cloud State Teachers College, in 1948. She married Marvin Nelson, on June 16, 1951. Together they had two sons, David and Donald. Jointly they operated a third generation farm for 40 years. She worked part-time as a substitute teacher, and later, for the United States Postal Service for 13 years, retiring in 1990.
Beatrice was very involved at the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Wedding Coordinator, Altar Guild member, and many more committees. She also participated in several community activities and helped with delivering Meals-on-Wheels.
Beatrice was an enthusiastic sports fan, following the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Timberwolves; as well as the local Chisago Lakes Wildcats basketball teams. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, playing dominos with friends, and a triumphant scrabble game.
She loved to help people and often helped take care of others, driving them to doctor appointments, or whatever she could do to lend a hand. Bea enjoyed the company of her friends and having coffee and birthday celebrations.
Beatrice is survived by her sons, David (Joyce) Nelson and Donald (Rita) Nelson; four grandchildren, Candi, Erik, Brad and Doug; eight great-grandchildren, Derek, Nicole, Shaianne, Hazel, Louie, Sydney, Kylee and Lily; one great-great-grandchild, Addelyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, in 2016; three brothers and one sister.
Memorial Services 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Center City. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to American Heart Association or Chisago Lake Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home, in Lindstrom.
