If you were one of the hundreds of people that came out to support the Geisenkoetter family after the loss of their son Alan Jr., thank you.

It was overwhelming to see just how many people came out to the lake Saturday afternoon.  There were people everywhere.  There were people spending money on food, there were people spending money on raffles, there were people spending money on silent auction items.  Money was flying everywhere you looked and the best part was everyone was thrilled to be spending it.

I spoke with Alan Jr.’s sister and she said the family took in just over $30,000 for the day.  Absolutely amazing.  I made a point to watch other people when I donated money, and I didn’t see anything less than $20 bills going in the bucket.  That money will go a long way for the mounting hospital bills, but they will still have much more to go.  If you would like to assist the family and were unable to make it out to the ice Saturday, you can still help.

You can send a check made out to the Geisenkoetter family in care of the Wells Fargo Forest Lake Branch.  The address for the bank is 208 Lake St. South, Forest Lake MN, 55025.  The folks at the bank will see that it goes to the right account.

Congratulations to the Chisago Lakes Girls ski team and to Ryan and Jamie Mower for earning spots at the Minnesota State Ski meet. They all ski today at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.  Great job on an awesome season!

Congratulations also to the Chisago Lakes Jazz dance team who qualified for the state dance competition at Target Center.  They will dance Friday at 2 p.m. We wish nothing but the best to the girls at state!

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for March 3 & 4. Those are the dates for this year’s Home Garden & Business Expo at the Chisago Lakes High School.

The show is filled with wonderful vendors who will showcase their goods, services and skills.  You can literally walk in and pick up car insurance, a photo session all the way to a house plan. Everything is under one roof.  This year there is a large screen smart tv being given away, so make sure to get your name in.  There is also some great entertainment such as a magician, canvas painting, cloggers, a 3D painting class, Batman and Belle will be there for photos with your kids, chalk paint demonstrations and a photo booth.  Admission is free.

If you are a vendor, there is still time to get in the show.  Call 651-257-2600 to secure a spot. If you are in this year’s show, it will ensure you get a choice spot in next year’s show which will be held in the brand new field house.

Fishing in Chisago Lakes has always been a popular hobby.  I fancy myself as one, although the fish wish there were more terrible fishermen like me. Bass fishing has grown both locally and nationally tremendously over the last 10 years.
There is a great group of people trying to start a high school bass fishing league this spring.  What a great idea.  Kids who sign up will fish two to a boat with an adult serving as a captain and guide, and they will compete against other high schools with bass leagues.

If your student would like to participate, you are encouraged to call Craig at 651-499-6880.  They would like to have rosters filled by May 1.
