Ohhh, what to do...what to do - a lot

Ohhh, what to do...what to do - a lot
Ohhh, what to do...what to do - a lot

Once again our weather people on the tv have misled us.  Not to be a complainer, but as of Monday morning we were supposed to get one to three inches of snow.  Looking outside, they underestimated the storm. Usually they err on the over instead of the under.  Why they don’t just call Sioux City Iowa and ask them if it’s snowing, if it is - then predict snow.

We were invited to our friends’ house for a Vikings party Sunday. After discussing it, we (my wife and I) decided to just stay home.  We were afraid of yelling expletives in front of our friends.  As the world knows-- we lost, we lost big time.  In a way, I am glad for the way we lost. No, I’m not glad we lost but to lose that badly is easier to stomach than say a 61 yard touchdown with no time remaining.  The Vikings had an amazing year and were so fun to watch.  Someday - someday we will see them in the Super Bowl...right? Please say yes.

Well now that we don’t have to worry about the purple, it’s finally time to have some real fun.  Celebrate Chisago Lakes Winter Blast begins today with Downtown Diva Night Shopping.  The night of shopping finishes at Winehaven for Diva Night Bingo.
Friday, the library is holding a book sale. First United Methodist Church is holding their annual puzzles, pie and potato soup event that begins at 6 pm. Then is the event I have been telling you about for weeks, the Rotary Casino Night at Frankie’s Marine.  Casino Night begins at 6 pm and is a great time - trust me it’s a blast.

Saturday, there is almost too much to list, but here I go.  Center City Fire Department is holding their fun 5K run/walk that begins at 8:30 am with kids at 9:15 am.  Saturday is the super-popular Lions Ice Fishing Contest on North Center Lake at 1 pm.  CL Lutheran will host a spaghetti dinner at 4:30 pm.  Saturday in Lindstrom everyone is invited to a a polka dance at the community center.  The dance begins at 6 pm.

Chisago City Ojiketa Regional Park will be the hotspot for the celebration.  There will be cross country skiing, food vendors from 10 am to 4 pm, a story time for kids in Strom Hall that begins at 11 am.  At 11 am, there is a kids graffiti canvas painting class in Strom Hall that only cost $5 per child or $10 per family.

Grab your friends and try to find the hidden medallion, clues will be posted throughout the day, the hunt begins at 11 am.
There will be dog sled rides, as well as kids games and one of my favorite attractions Fun Flicks - Historic Area Movies.  The movies begin at 11 am and run thru 4 pm. I love watching movies about this area from yesteryear.

At 1:30 pm, you are invited to submit your favorite chili recipe in the chili cook off.  There is a $25 entry fee and prize money at stake. The public can taste for the low cost of $2. There is an awards ceremony at Strom Hall at 3:30 pm where Ambassador Bill Mack will be honored. Saturday in Chisago City wraps up with snowshoeing by candlelight that starts at 6pm.

Sunday has a pancake breakfast at Trinity Lutheran.  The event that really has people excited is the snowmobile radar run on North Center Lake in Center City which will run all day long.   Along with the radar run, there is a vintage snowmobile show and kid’s pro-am snowmobile races. You can tube at Wild Mountain for a discount if you use the code CWLB.  Trinity Lutheran Church will close the long weekend with Bingo 2-5 pm.
Don’t tell me there is nothing to do around here!
