Sandra Katz
Sandra Katz

Sandra was born May 28, 1937 in Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin to Leo and Leona Katz. She passed away peacefully, at age 80, at her home in Roseville on January 18, 2018. Sandra lived her childhood and young adult life in St. Croix Falls, and graduated from Saint Croix Falls High School in 1955. She was a good student and a very good musician. Sandra studied piano from the age of 10 through her school years. By high school, she was playing advanced classical music with ease. One of her favorite pieces to play was La mer, by Claude Debussy. After graduation Sandra worked for 10 years as a telephone operator in Saint Croix Falls. When she had saved up enough money, she enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls and received a four-year degree in three years. After graduation, Sandra worked at 3M as a production control analyst for 25 years, until her retirement in 2001.

Sandra’s main interests in life were horses and cats. She owned a horse starting in high school and belonged to the Dalles saddle club for many years. She enjoyed Saddle Club meetings and trail riding immensely. In high school she “adopted” a cat and later owned cats for most of her adult years. She was a devoted mother to her cats, who she considered to be family. Sandra also loved to ski in her younger years. Skyline Ski Area (the forerunner to Trollhaugen) was just up the hill from her home in St. Croix Falls, so Sandra skied often and well. During her years working at 3M she lived in Hudson, WI and then Maplewood, MN. She enjoyed visiting her nieces and nephews and her extended family over the years, and traveled, and loved to read.

Sandra’s mother Leona and father Leo Katz preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister Karen McCarville and brother-in-law James of Lindstrom MN; their children, Kevin (Gina) McCarville, Michelle McCarville, Erin (Nathaniel Damron), Shannon McCarville, and Meghan (Manuel Mendoza), and her four grandnephews – Dylan, William, Alexander, and Henry. She is also survived by cousins on both sides of her family.

Funeral Services were  Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment at St. Croix Cemetery in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrand fh.com
